... ABC Transcription Tools (Developed by Michael Eskin) is a free, open-source program for working with ABC music notation directly in your web browser. The user interface is text editor based in ABC text or html like coding. It also has a tools based section where user selects various tools and clicks to use them. If you already know the basics of ABC, you can think of it as a workspace where you can open or create tunes, see the resulting notation as you edit, listen, transpose and modify them. You can enter ABC directly, open existing ABC files, or import MusicXML, BWW, and MIDI files. Tunes can be displayed using tablature or fingering systems for a variety of instruments and I have been working with the developer Using Custom Tabs to perfect fingering tablature for the Brien Boru Bagpipe. Tablature can be injected into the ABC itself so that it becomes a permanent part of the tune....
-- Click on the ABC Transcription Tools Link above to open the ONLINE version of the Software. -- You will also need to download some other files to get ABC to display the Brien Boru Finger Tabs correctly. Two Custom Tabs files are used, one is for, if the Key Signature contains Sharps and the other is for, if the Key Signature contains Flats. A third file you will need is a CSS stylesheet file. This is inserted into the top of the ABC coding page to improve the display spacing of the score and Finger Tabs.
An OFFLINE version is available to run on your own PC by Downloading and Extracting a Zip file downloaded from ABCTools Github
-- Method of Use - All Versions -- Download the files using the links below and save them in a folder on your PC. When you come to use them in ABCTools you will load them from this folder and "Inject" CSS sheet text at the top of the ABC coding page of the tune using "Inject Example Template". Then you can use Add or Open the tune you require and to display the requied Finger Tabs "Inject" the Custom Tab files using the tools "Load Custom Tablature", then "Inject Custom Tablature".
